It sounds a lot easier than it is. However, the more you can consistently throw strikes, the easier it'll be to pick up spares when you don't knock down all 10. In order to develop any sort of consistency, you need to know how you bowl and how your ball reacts. If you can get a base idea of these two things, making adjustments will come much easier as you bowl on different lane conditions in the future.
What do you need to do? Find your strike ball. This is your shot on which you can base the rest of your game. If you know where to stand, how to throw the ball and where the ball goes, you can start from that point anywhere you go and be able to figure out how to adjust to the specific conditions in front of you on any given night.
Being able to throw strikes consistently is difficult. But the sooner you find your strike ball, the sooner you'll develop that consistency.
