Carmen Salvino Classic: Archer vs. Gomez, Hitmen vs. Everyone

By February 6, 2013

Follow me on:

Sunday, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN, we'll see the Carmen Salvino Classic Finals. The telecast will include round 2 of league play, with the same format we saw two weeks ago during the PBA League debut, and will also feature the individual title match between D.J. Archer and Andres Gomez.

With only two bowlers advancing to the individual title match (historically, four or five bowlers would advance to a stepladder final), the qualifying and match-play rounds were even more important than usual. D.J. Archer led (handily) for most of the tournament, and Gomez jumped into that second spot late in an effort to repeat as champion in this event.

The Philadelphia Hitmen earned the top seed for this competition based on each team member's scores during the qualifying round of the Carmen Salvino Classic.

PBA League Stepladder

  1. Philadelphia Hitmen
  2. Motown Muscle
  3. New York City WTT KingPins
  4. Winner of the Clash Round

The Clash Round will include the five remaining teams. L.A. X will get four bowlers, the Atom Splitters will get three, the Styles two and one each from the Jack Rabbits and Strikers.

Take a look at the current PBA League standings to see how this event will affect the chase for the Elias Cup.
