Biography:
Jason Belmonte originally created a buzz based merely on his unconventional bowling style. Using two hands, a process he traces back to his days as a young boy who couldn't hold the ball in one hand, Belmonte puts an unbelievable number of revs on the ball, which destroys the pins when he's on his game.
By now, he's well beyond a novelty act. He's won bowling titles all over the world, including the 2007 World Tenpin Masters, and is a pretty good bet to cash in any PBA Tour event he enters.
2011-2012 World Series of Bowling
During the 2011-2012 World Series of Bowling, Belmonte proved a lot of people right. For the first couple years of his career, experts and other bowlers were predicting Belmonte would break out and start racking up titles with alarming frequency. Over the course of the WSOB, he did.
Eight events were contested during the World Series, and Belmonte made it to the television finals in six of them. That's impressive enough on its own, since making it to the top four of 204 total entrants is not easy. Belmonte, not content to merely make it to the show, won three of them (the Chameleon Open, Shark Open and PBA Elite Players Championship) and set himself up to contend for the PBA Player of the Year Award.
Belmonte also joined an elite club of bowlers who have thrown televised 300 games when he did so in qualifying for the PBA World Championship.
