What if Someone Interferes With Me While I Bowl?

By , About.com Guide

Question: What if Someone Interferes With Me While I Bowl?
Answer: This is a very important rule for rock-and-bowlers who are also rules sticklers. It's common for groups of people bowling recreationally to distract each other and even create physical interference. That's usually all part of the fun for them, but it is a violation of the rules.

If you're the victim of interference from a person or moving object during your delivery, you have the option of taking the resulting pinfall or bowling again with no penalty.

Since the entire delivery is covered by this rule, you could approach and throw your ball with no interference at all, but if someone makes contact with you prior to the ball hitting the pins, you can call a dead ball if you wish.

This rule also applies to moving objects. Whether a friend throws something at you or the scoring monitor falls on your head, you're entitled to another shot, at your discretion, without penalty.
